Following a row with her boyfriend Kurt on holiday in Amsterdam, Colleen LaRose hooked up with a Muslim man staying in the same hotel. Her interest in Islam was piqued by this brief encounter, and once home in Pennsburg, Pennsylvania, LaRose signed up to a Muslim dating site. Over a tight 94 minutes, we hear from key players in the conspiracy, with LaRose herself first heard by phone from Tallahassee prison in Florida — and later seen upon her release in November It is no surprise that every subsequent romantic relationship LaRose enters into seems destined for disaster.
There is also a heartbreaking scene in which LaRose phones her son Christian, only for him to be uninterested with her attempts to rekindle a maternal connection. It remains a mystery who Eagle Eye, a conspirator seemingly named after a Shia LaBeouf action film about terrorism, actually was.

British Broadcasting Corporation Home. Jihad explained. The literal meaning of Jihad is struggle or effort, and it means much more than holy war. Many modern writers claim that the main meaning of Jihad is the internal spiritual struggle, and this is accepted by many Muslims. However there are so many references to Jihad as a military struggle in Islamic writings that it is incorrect to claim that the interpretation of Jihad as holy war is wrong.
The internal Jihad is the one that Prophet Muhammad is said to have called the greater Jihad. But the quotation in which the Prophet says this is regarded as coming from an unreliable source by some scholars. They regard the use of Jihad to mean holy war as the more important. The phrase internal Jihad or greater Jihad refers to the efforts of a believer to live their Muslim faith as well as possible.
So Muslims make a great effort to live as Allah has instructed them; following the rules of the faith, being devoted to Allah, doing everything they can to help other people. For most people, living God’s way is quite a struggle. God sets high standards, and believers have to fight with their own selfish desires to live up to them, no matter how much they love God. The five Pillars of Islam form an exercise of Jihad in this sense, since a Muslim gets closer to Allah by performing them.
On his return from a battle, the Prophet said: “We are finished with the lesser jihad; now we are starting the greater jihad.

The word jihad appears frequently in the Quran with and without military connotations, often in the idiomatic expression “striving in the path of God al-jihad fi sabil Allah “. Jihad is sometimes referred to as the sixth pillar of Islam , though this designation is not commonly recognized. The term jihad is often rendered in English as “Holy War”, although this translation is controversial.
In Modern Standard Arabic , the term jihad is used for a struggle for causes, both religious and secular.

Other Muslims have been beaten up , nearly lynched, run out of their neighborhoods or attacked in mosques, branded as virus spreaders. In Punjab State, loudspeakers at Sikh temples broadcast messages telling people not to buy milk from Muslim dairy farmers because it was infected with coronavirus.
Hateful messages have bloomed online. And a wave of apparently fake videos has popped up telling Muslims not to wear masks, not to practice social distancing, not to worry about the virus at all, as if the makers of the videos wanted Muslims to get sick. In a global pandemic, there is always the hunt for blame. From the crackdown on Kashmir , a Muslim majority area, to a new citizenship law that blatantly discriminates against Muslims , this past year has been one low point after another for Indian Muslims living under an increasingly bold Hindu nationalist government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and propelled by majoritarian policies.

This In-Depth report from our International Security Program examines broad trends in the jihadist terrorist threat facing the United States that have emerged over the last 18 years. We provide an overview of the terrorism in cases we’ve tracked since , and we examine three key questions: Who are the terrorists targeting the United States?
Why do they engage in terrorism in the first place? And what threat do they pose? The data also include a small number of individuals who died before being charged but were widely reported to have engaged in jihadist criminal activity, We define jihadists to include those who are motivated by versions of bin Laden’s global ideology or otherwise provide support to groups that follow a version of that ideology.
The term originated from an alleged fatwa titled Jihad ul Nikaah and attributed to a Saudi Salafi cleric Sheikh Mohamad al-Arefe around , that called for Sunni women supporters to come forward for sex jihad and boost the mujaheddin fighting the Syrian government in Syria. Allegations of this practice are related to the Tunisian government’s war effort against Al Qaida-linked terrorism in the mountainous Jebel ech Chambi region bordering Algeria.
The Tunisian coalition government alleges that the practice began with Tunisian girls sympathetic to the Islamic jihad movement there, and then spread with Tunisian girls volunteering comfort to Syrian jihadis. At least thirteen Tunisian girls were reported to have traveled to the rebel-held north Syria for sex jihad. In July , on a Facebook page claiming to be connected to the Muslim Brotherhood , a commentator promoted “sexual jihad”. The page has been deemed a “hoax,” and a senior Muslim Brotherhood supported called the page a “smear campaign”.
On September 19, , Lofti bin Jeddou , the Interior Minister of Tunisia, stated in the National Constituent Assembly that Sunni Tunisian women traveling to Syria for sex jihad were having sex with 20, 30 and even up to rebels, and that some of the women had returned home pregnant. The Tunisian Jihadist Abu Qusay , who was interviewed by Tunisian TV after his return from Syria, confirmed that stories about “Jihad al-Nikah” or what is also referred to as “sexual Jihad” are not just a rumors but are real, as he himself had experienced it firsthand.
He also confirmed the nationalities of the girls who travel to Syria to partake in this kind of Jihad. According to several media outlets, [ which? A shocking attack by an Islamic State affiliate has killed more than 70 Nigerien soldiers, the most ever in a single incident. Its fighters reportedly used mortars and kamikaze vehicles to storm the base. This claim could not be independently confirmed. The attack by the Islamic State affiliate, which has escalated its campaign in the area around Inates since April, is part of an emerging trend of large-scale jihadist operations against military outposts in the central Sahel.
On 30 September, almost simultaneous attacks on a Malian military unit at Mondoro and a Malian battalion of the regional G5 Sahel Joint Force at Boulikessi, both near the border between Mali and Burkina Faso, killed at least 40 — mainly soldiers — and left more than 60 people missing. Just weeks later, on 1 November, Islamic State militants also killed more than 50 Malian soldiers in an assault on the Indelimane base on the Mali-Niger border. As a result, the Malian military retreated from Indelimane, as well as two other strategic frontier posts at Labbezanga and Anderamboukane, leaving Nigerien forces more vulnerable to infiltration and attacks from across the border.
